Op Shops Ahoy!

I can't wait until next Thursday.....

A girlfriend and I are going opshoping together sans all but one little kidlet - thank goodness for daycare and grandparents!

We are going to hit the shops of Rocky with a passion rarely seen in cow town before......

Look out Rock Vegas we are on a mission!

(and it will be a great day to just spend together, something we haven't done for years)

So these were my material finds yesterday. All of the real retro ones (that are only small pieces) are going into a quilt that I will make.... one day!
That last one, I was thinking about making a simple shift dress for little Buddha - maybe with a cute little pair of tights or leggings?
As for the rest...I have no ideas - yet!

If anyone out there finds this pattern, can they please let me know? I think its one that I want to collect....

It is Alfred Meakin "Hillingdon"

Thanks :)

And now for my most exciting find for the day......

For the princely sum of $20 and gen -u -iron radiogram!

And it works!

Well, I get sound from the radio part....but its no surprise that I get no radio stations...they are shocking out here even with a U-beaut brand new radio....hopefully they will be better out at the farm.

And the record player works....and the sound is amazing!

Will post a picture of Buddha grooving away to Buddy Holly in a moment.

Another great find...hopefully they will fit my friend.....Never been worn, not a mark on the soles!

At the same place I picked up a few more sewing patterns and a handful of zips and a couple of pieces of material. (will post pictures of the material after I finish washing it)

Todays finds!

What started as a dull day turned into an excellent one when I had a ripper couple of finds at my local op shops! This coat is not for me however, its too small...but I think it maybe a perfect fit for a dear friend of mine that I only discovered last week is into retro styles as much as I am!

It was made in Melbourne (ah, for the days that clothes were actually made in Australia!) and is 60% wool and the other 40% is a blend of a few other things (of which I can't recall right now!) and looks in really good condition!

More to come....

Hi all,

I have been madly busy of late and haven't had much of a chance to update this with my finds from down south...I will, I promise, soon I hope!

I had a quick look in Rocky yesterday and had some great finds (which are in the washing machine waiting to be hung out as I type this!) - including - a green RL wool jump, a green check RL Shirt and a Ben Sherman shirt for hubby!

If you are in Rocky, the Salvos on the southside are having a $6 fill a bag sale, which is where I got htese and a couple more things from!

Going back home - A challenge!

I'll be heading back down south at the end of the week to see my family and so they can see the kids.

My personal challenge is to take only clothes with me that I have recycled...either from online or from op shops and wear only them (except for underwear of course!)

So lets see how I go!

My vow for the year....

I joined a challenge with another voguette recently - to not buy anything other than underwear new for the whole year.... which I am going to try to do, not just with myself, but the kids as well.

Lets see how we go.....

Its in the Genes

My love of Op Shopping developed from a very young age...I remember my mother taking me into op shops around home while we waited for dad (mum doesn't drive) to have a look around and to buy whatever took our fancy.

It all started from there really.....

And now I take my kids to op shops whenever I get a chance...they often pick up weird and wonderful toys (which they seem to love more than the expensive ones relatives buy for them!) while I get clothes for all of us; so we can be fashionable for a fraction of what it would cost normally! Lol...I often justify it by saying that the kids grow so fast and why waste lots of money on new clothes for all the playing they do?

And I love wearing things a little different to everyone else......

Anyway, this blog is to showcase my marevellous finds while out doing what I love - Op Shopping!!!!!
